Medical emergencies can occur at any time. The emergency department never closes: patients with chest pain, breathlessness, trauma, severe infection or a dialysis emergency are assessed and stabilised on arrival, with diagnostic support available around the clock. Patients who need close monitoring and intensive medical support are cared for through the hospital’s critical-care facilities, including ICU dialysis when it is clinically indicated.
