Hemodialysis is a treatment that helps remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys are unable to perform these functions adequately.

Aastha provides specialized dialysis care supported by nephrology consultation, laboratory services, diagnostic facilities and critical-care support.

What is hemodialysis?

During hemodialysis, blood is circulated through a dialysis machine and a special filter called a dialyzer. Waste products and excess fluid are removed before the filtered blood is returned to the body.

Who may need hemodialysis?

Hemodialysis may be recommended for patients with advanced kidney failure and selected cases of acute kidney injury or severe fluid, electrolyte or metabolic disturbances.

The decision to begin dialysis is made by a nephrologist after evaluating the patient’s overall medical condition.

Dialysis access

A suitable vascular access is necessary for hemodialysis. Depending on the patient’s circumstances, dialysis access may involve:

  • AV fistula
  • Dialysis catheter
  • Tunneled catheter
  • Non-tunneled catheter

Aastha also provides dialysis-access-related services.

During dialysis

Patients are monitored during treatment, with attention to blood pressure, fluid removal and other clinical parameters. The duration and frequency of dialysis depend on the individual treatment plan.
