Abnormal kidney-function tests, swelling of the feet or face, blood or protein in the urine, or high blood pressure with kidney problems are reasons to see a nephrologist early. Consultants evaluate with blood and urine tests, kidney-function testing and imaging, then plan individualized treatment: medicines, dietary and lifestyle guidance, management of associated conditions, and dialysis or other specialized interventions when needed. Follow-up continues for as long as the kidney disease does.
